Fresh Start

Fresh Start

This fresh start is not an April Fools’ joke. 2024 has become a fitting time for me to evaluate my life and fix what’s not working. Most are still works in progress, since only three months have past. Anyway, before I continue, here’s a cute picture of myself last February beaming with the color of the year 🍑.

Three years after my last post, this little project of mine is now complete: I was able to migrate my personal website to WordPress.com.

Goodbye old layout, Ghost and AWS!
Look and feel of my website’s old set-up, in gif!

This website’s previous host was in AWS, and its content management system was in Ghost. This set-up was such a trend back in 2016, the year I built eyana.me. Ghost was such a cool toy for web developers during that time.

Eight years after, I’ve gotten lazier. So many things have happened in the field of web development that I didn’t have the time and motivation to upgrade my skills. Navigating my AWS dashboard is like reading Greek to me now. When it comes to any project, I just want things to be easier and more efficient.

WordPress.com can take over the work for me! All I have to do this is to focus on content. I love the convenience! Another great thing is, this option is also more cost-effective. My savings are roughly 50% of my previous cost.

The migration process was pretty manual; I copy-pasted all 21 posts here for about 4 hours in total (see category: Old Content). I also uploaded the media manually. I knew I had to do these things since migration support for Ghost is pretty non-existent. But honestly, the process was therapeutic and humbling. Each post made me reminisce on career milestones and learnings that I’ve diligently documented in the past eight years. I’m just grateful.

Why I haven’t done this sooner? I’ll share soon. But for now, I need to think of what to write here.
